Are You Thinking About a Career in Web Development?

Many businesses are increasingly reliant on software for their workforce to work remotely. Find out if this is a fit for you.

First, what is a web developer?

A web developer is someone who builds a website or web application. There are three main types of web developers. Front end developers, back end developers, and full stack developers.

    • Front-end developers build the visible parts of the website i.e. User Interface (UI). They create the buttons, layouts, and pictures you see and click on.
    • Back-end developers connect the UI with any background processes to make the screens work.
    • Full stack developers do both front and back end development, hence a “full stack”.

Simply put – think of a search bar on a screen. The front end developers create the box to type in your question (e.g. box height, text color and size). Back end developers ensure the search is being pulled from the correct source, and the results are displayed on the screen.

Why consider a web development career now?

Due to the current pandemic, many businesses are operating remotely. This means the internet is required to conduct their day-to-day work. Getting involved in developing web apps and websites would be an advantage.

Web developers and designers can be salaried employees or freelancers. It offers flexibility and different types of work arrangements. It is unclear what the world will look like after COVID-19. Having extra flexibility helps mitigate that uncertainty. Good luck and happy coding!
